How could I help a poor family from the 1930’s by Azeezah Hassan

If I could travel back in time to the 1930 to give gifts
or treats to a family, I would likely give them a car, food, clothes,
games for the kids, lots of money so they can get what they need and
phones so they can communicate with their family.

I would do this so they can live a better life in the desperate
times they are living in.

We were asked to think of how we could support a family from the 1930's who
did not have the things that we have now. Here is how I would help them:

How could I help a poor family from the 1930’s?

I will give them electric blankets to keep them warm.
Some protein bars to keep them healthy, a PlayStation to learn how to play.
I will get the family  a waitress to help them cook, and some nice clothing.
I will give them a WiFi modem, a nice hot tub and a shower and a a big house.  
They will need a hospital to take care of themselves and a fresh 'brick' of money.

Now the old family will be treated like precious shiny gold.

Making Our Space Colourful!

COMMUNITY IS HOME! AMUA IS HOME!

Presently we are waiting for our rebuild. It has been taking some time so our Principal asked us to beautify our spaces while we wait, to make our space feel like ours.

Amua have had the help of our wonderful Miss Parker and her art skills to get us started.

If we see an area that we want to 'zap' up, 'colour dash', paint splatter, create a masterpiece we decide how we want it to look and get our creative minds working.

We have a lot to do but we figure that lots of colour makes the smaller children happy in the playground.

We have been practising how to say where we are from in Te Reo Maori. This is where I am from.

Maker-Y Robotics with Braedon and Kootuitui

Red Hill School Year 7/8 students had the opportunity to experiment, control, programme, code and work with their peers to manoeuvre and operate the Robotics.

Braedon was an excellent teacher who introduced us to some very complex language. We were able to complete a series of tasks to control our robots.

One question we did ask was if it was possible to Bluetooth the Robots. Braeden explained to us that there needs to be a few adjustments to the programme to be able to operate them using Bluetooth.

We had two sessions using Robotics and our teachers were impressed with our performance. We all learnt at least one important piece of information to support our peers and our group.

Who knows? In the future we could become game programmers for our XBox and Playstation consoles.

On Wednesday we did gardening with Miss Parker.

We had to plant the seedlings into the miniature pots. It was a messy job!

An Experience at the Papakura Art Gallery and Pascal Atiga

Red Hill School had the privilege to work alongside an ex-pupil of Red Hill School to create an exciting art piece.

Pascal Atiga attended Red Hill School as a child, his children attended the same primary school so how fitting was it for him to approach Red Hill School and to engage our present pupils to partake in his exhibition.

This collaboration of work by Pascal and the Year 7/8 students will be on display on Saturday 28 October at the Papakura Art Gallery. The students of Amua will definitely be there to view their work. Exciting!

We had an absolute blast this year at our School Fun Run event. The weather held out long enough for all of our enthusiastic athletes to complete in a school-wide event.

Socks, Socks, Glorious Socks.

The students in Amua Hub have been fortunate enough to have received a warm socks for the Winter for FREE! We were all very excited to be given a set each for Monday to Friday so we will all match throughout the Winter.

Amua Celebrates our ANZAC's.

In Amua Hub we have been investigating our ANZAC soldiers and we have put together a range of poems to share our thoughts.

ANZAC In the war the soldiers  battled. Many lost their lives for what…? Many families paid a heavy price with a throw of a dice. Together families will  remember them, we will watch those brave men march, Through the darkest nights and longest days, Through muddy grounds and damp surrounds. We marched ahead with our heads held high. And there we see the poppies grow side by side above us all. On this day we wear with pride, red poppies to remember the courage so strong, you're in our hearts so rest in peace, Your memory lives on for all to embrace. Jaz. (Year 7)

Our Anzac Soldiers. Our soldiers that have passed Will not be the very last. More and more go away Hoping they’ll come back some day. Fighting to protect their country in war Although they come out very poor. Our soldiers that risked their lives Getting hurt by guns and knives.
